Environmental Health and Safety Specialist

SmartTalent is seeking a skilled Environmental Health and Safety Specialist for a company in Arlington. As a successful candidate you will have 3 years of experience performing similar duties in a production/construction setting and seeking a long term temp to hire position. This position requires someone who can work well independently and is self-motivated.

Duties will include but not limited to:
Plan and supervise: chemical additions, filter change outs, ferrous sulfate filter press change outs, bag house filter change outs, hazardous waste shipments, storm water filter maintenance, facility maintenance to keep clean appearance, plans/procedures updates, attend agency compliance inspections, plan/stock chemicals, plan maintenance activities, assist or manage special projects, L&I certification (e.G. Respirators, fall protection, forklift, crane), solid waste disposal issues (i.E. What can go in the dumpster), maintain records on same.
Provide advice, assist, and audit line management to ensure that effective EHS is implemented and working. Perform and contribute to the Site Training Plans by conducting employee orientations; emergency response training; and coordination of modular training programs for the Operation.
Assist with maintaining the Site Preparedness and Emergency Plans & Procedures.
Daily PSCAA Equipment Function Log Entries (e.G. Pressure drops, maintenance items), a walk through facility inspection (i.E. Find violations and housekeeping/maintenance issues), remedy any faults found.
Weekly Safety Equipment Inventory Check, hazardous waste storage inspection, hazardous waste generation/storage log update, plan hazardous waste generation/shipments to keep MQG status, check safety equipment stock/replace as needed.
Monthly L&I Safety Meetings, check safety shower function, enter hazardous waste shipments on Ecology web reporting form, and maintain signage to Ecology and OSHA Hazardous Communication Standard.
Quarterly Surface Water Permit sampling/analysis/reporting.
Yearly Hazardous Waste Annual Report (March 1st), Pollution Prevention Plan Update (September 1st), Toxic Release Inventory (Form R) (July 1st), Tier II Community Right to Know report (March 1st).
Labor and Industry Duties:
o Coordinate monthly/quarterly safety meetings. Take notes and create safety minutes.
o Filing yearly Dangerous waste report with the Washington State Department of Ecology.
o Calling for pickup of the facilities waste.
o Ordering items for Ecology pickup items.

Bachelor degree in related field. Preferably in Environmental studies.
3 years of experience in the field would be an asset.
Intermediate computer skills (e.G. MS Office including Excel and Word) are essential. Excellent written and verbal skills
Has or willing to obtain First aid, CPR and hazardous waste material certification.

This opportunity is a Temp to Hire based on performance and attendance.
Hourly pay rate of $18-28 DOE. Upon conversion there is a great benefit package available. During the temporary period SmartTalent offers an ACA compliant healthcare plan as well as a supplemental plan.
